Antique Silver Plate Dr Christopher Dresser Art Deco Tea pot c.1920-30.
Small modernist Art Deco teapot designed by Dr Christopher Dresser (1834-1904). The design of the teapot is described as an “industrial reformationist”, and predates Art Deco movement by 50 years. This design was made in limited numbers and considered a “prototype”. The original was manufactured by James Dixon & Sons in Sheffield. Circa 1878. Hand made in England.
This design was revived in the Art Deco period that it inspired, which is when this reproduction was made c.1920-30.
Made of E.P.N.S (Electro Plated Nickel Silver) with simple but stylish Ebonised wood handle. Simple rectangle shape with four square stumpy feet, upright handle, hinged half-square lid and tapering spout.
Marked beneath “Designed by Dr Christopher Dresser” with a worn diamond registration mark. I, 9, 11, Rd. reg. Mark is for 1878 when the original was designed.
